Exercise during busy season

It's that time of year when things get busy, which often means less time for exercise, so it's important to incorporate as much activity into your day as you can.

Get on your feet as often as possible.  At home, stand at the counter to work rather than sitting at the table.  The weather is beautiful, park at the edge of the lot and walk.  It adds only a few minutes to your shopping trip.  If possible, skip the cart and grab the hand basket.  Put the milk in first and carry it around the store while shopping.  While you are bringing in the groceries or other purchases, do a few bicep curls on the way into the house.

At the office, walk to a co-worker's desk rather than phoning or emailing.  You don't have to do it every time, but a few times a day can really add up.

Consider taking some time to go out and shop rather than shopping online.  It's nice to be out in the Christmas fun and walking the mall can give you some ideas for those hard-to-buy-for-friends and family members.

Take the kids out to play.  Fly a kite, go for a bike ride, or go skating.

You can also make time for regular exercise, if you plan for it.  You might not be able to maintain your regular schedule, but you can trim it down a bit and still get some benefit.  Remember, if you are used to a regular exercise program, your body will react negatively if it is too deprived.  You can cut the amount of time per session down a bit, or go less frequently, but try for at least half an hour three days per week.  There's nothing like a good 30 minutes of huffing and puffing to clear your head, and that's priceless this time of year.
