Make the Valley your playground

Up north, they are scrambling to put up the storm windows for winter.  But down here, we are heading into six months of gorgeous weather.  Why not plan to take full advantage of it this year?  As mom says, "Go outside and play."

Sunshine is good for you.  It provides vitamin D and boosts your spirits.  There are many parks in the Valley that are ideal for taking walks or riding bikes.  Many of them have fitness challenge trails you can use.

In the Gilbert area, there are canals that run through town.  This time of year, they are busy with walkers and bike riders.  The canal trails have the added benefit of having no cars to worry about.

How about taking a family walk or bike ride on Saturday mornings?

Speaking of bikes, don't worry if it has been awhile.  The adage is true, you really don't forget how.  If you are feeling wary, consider a trike.  They have become quite popular.  You can even get a basket and use it for small trips to the store.

The dogs are ready to get out and play too.  There are a number of dog parks around town that are lots of fun.  Pack up Rover, Spot and some small hand weights.  Let them go for a run while you power-walk.

Racquetball and tennis courts are free to use on the evenings and weekends.  I like racquetball because I get to spend more time hitting and less time chasing.  You can use a tennis ball so it doesn't bounce too hard.  Make up your own games and challenges.

Soak up the wonderful weather this year, take full advantage and have fun doing it.  Don't exercise – play!
